چکیده

This paper presents a high-order double-sampling single-loop modulation analog-to-digital (A/D) converter. The important problem of noise folding in double-sampling circuits is solved here at the architectural level by placing one of the zeros in the modulator’s noise transfer function at half the sampling frequency instead of in the baseband. The resulting modulator is of fifth order but has the baseband performance of a fourth-order modulator. Through the use of an efficient switched-capacitor implementation, the overall circuit uses only four operational amplifiers and hence, its complexity is similar to that of a fourth-order modulator. An experimental 1-bit modulator was designed for an oversampling ratio of 96 and a bandwidth of 250 kHz at a 3.3-V supply in a conservative 0.8m standard CMOS process. Due to the doublesampling, the sampling frequency is 48 MHz, although the circuits operate at a clock frequency of only 24 MHz. The circuit achieves a dynamic range of 94 dB. The peak signal-to-noise ratio and signal-to-noise-plus-distortion ratio were measured to be 90 and 86 dB, respectively. The power consumption of the complete circuit including clock drivers and output pad drivers was 43 mW. The analog blocks (opamps, comparators, etc.) consume 30 mW of this total.

A 4th-order Bandpass Sigma-delta Modulator

Digital radio receivers must perform the analog-to-digital conversion of bandpass signals. For signals with small relative bandwidths, bandpass XA analog-to-digi ta l converters offer high signal-to-noise ratios at significantly lower sampling rates than are required for lowpass ZA converters, while still providing excellent linearity. This paper study the high-level modelling and design of delta-sigma ( ) noise shapers for audio Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) so as to eliminate the in-band Signal-to-NoiseRatio (SNR) degradation that accompany one channel mismatch in audio signal. The converter combines a cascaded digital signal interpolation, a noise-shaping single loop delta-sigma modulator with a 5-bit quantizer resolut...

A Near 1-V Operational, 0.18-µm CMOS Passive Sigma-Delta Modulator with 77 dB of Dyanamic Range

A low-voltage operational capability near 1 V along with low noise and distortion characteristics have been realized in a passive sigma-delta modulator. To achieve low-voltage operation, the dc voltage in signal paths in the switched-capacitor-filter section was set to be 0.2 V so that sufficient gate-to-source voltages were obtained for metal-oxidesemiconductor (MOS) switches in signal paths w...

A double-sampling cross noise-coupled split ΣΔ-modulation A/D converter with 80 dB SNR

This paper presents the design of a double-sampling split Σ∆-modulation analog-to-digital converter with cross noisecoupling. Double-sampling is used to achieve high conversion speed and low power consumption. To tackle the problem of quantization noise folding due to path mismatch, a fully floating bilinear integrator is used. Then the quantization noise is crosscoupled between two identical Σ...
